Close to You

A young family takes pause at the end of a special day, and rests in the fading light of a Manitoulin evening. A spray of stars shimmer in celestial splendour, and dwarf manmade points of light across Sheguiandah Bay on this crisp and clear palette. Strawberry Channel reveals distant mountains, frozen in serpentine motion, while mirror like waters reflect the spectacle above. Conversations turn to reflections of life, and the emptiness she feels with the passing of her mother. The rigidity of borders prevented last good-byes, and thoughts of regret linger, but she finds comfort in the knowledge that a mother looks over a daughter with an angel’s embrace. She wonders if all is well with her, and wishes her mother could talk to her or send a sign in hopes of reassurance. As an unannounced stone skips on placid waters, a confirming flash of light cuts a burning swath through the starry sky above them. Tears of joy begin to fall, as they knew this was a message far beyond Earthly bonds. The meteor was a sign of hope and a promise of better things to come for the family. “Yes daughter, I am here and I am fine. You can stop worrying for me. I am in a safe place, and I will always be close to you.”
