The Homecoming
The Homecoming - Image 2

The Homecoming

The clear waters of Chaffey Locks drew them together, as research at Queen’s Biological Station was their common passion. A relationship merged with budding careers, as they were led first to New Brunswick, and then south of the border to the state of New York. Ithaca College was their stage, and biology was their brilliant performance. Understudies benefitted from their experience, and when the final curtain closed on their careers, the natural world was bettered through their work. Canada’s one hundred and fifty-second birthday welcomed them home on the thirtieth anniversary of their union on August nineteenth. Charlie Harper’s leaping humpback whales rise in shades of blue, framing the words, “Next year in Canada,” as the sultry tones of Leonard Cohen filters throughout their new home. Otty Lake will become a place of reflection and new discovery, as they rejoice in past achievements, and look forward to relaxation and the natural wonders of life on wetland shores. Kayaks glide on pristine waters in flashes of red and blue, as a pair of red-winged blackbirds keep watch overhead. Silhouetted amongst diamond sparkles, the sun sets on one chapter, but many rewards lie ahead in the promise of the homecoming.

    Canoe Series #26

This collector piece is one out of a growing edition that I started creating in 2016. You will notice that the edition number and the artist’s signature is engraved on the back of the canoe, so as more pieces are created in the Canoe Series in the future, the lower edition numbers will translate to an increase in value with the passage of time.
