A Cardigan Night

Ocean swells subside and lull us in quiet, hypnotic rhythms, as they rise and fall upon a rock strewn shore.  Flickering light dances, as split pine warmth caresses our being in gentle brush strokes of scarlet and amber glow. Our gaze ascends, as we bare witness to the cosmic light behind silhouetted pines set on a precarious perch.  Cares and worries lift from earthly bounds, and mark the path of drifting embers as they vanish into the moonlit sky.  We absorb the moment, and feel blessed by the gifts of a Cardigan night.

    Reflections of Thomson

A young Tom Thomson living in urban surrounds, sought solitude in the majestic bluffs of Scarborough. Venturing further east he explored the calm of a lake named Scugog, where inspiration lead to the creation of Near Lake Scugog and Evening Lake Scugog. His gaze is distant, while his four legged companion’s is inward. Was this a sign of his bold interpretations of future northern landscapes? Look inward at your accomplishments and interactions that have proven to be a positive influence on the world, but also look ahead with determination and creativity for a future rich with a canvas filled with vibrant brush strokes. Could these be the lessons of Reflections of Thomson?

    The Call

Shrill voices break the silence in haunting rhythms, through misty shrouds. Messengers struggle to be heard as they warn of threatened waters from skies overhead. Spread your wings, rise up, and heed the call.

    Courage

A man weaves tales of this land through poetry and song. Senses are awakened by images of past glory, as well as those of immeasurable pain. Challenges are whispered, to all who will listen, from frail limbs and foreboding eyes. Chanie Wenjack’s secret path jolts us into uncomfortable realizations of historical disconnects, and untold misery on the tip of a Raven’s wing. Pearls of wisdom, spoken by a sister, seek a different world through truth and reconciliation. We are all connected to someone, as Gord is to Chanie. Follow the examples of those who came before us, and seek the strength to facilitate change. Let us dance for healing under the moonlight on ashes of love. All is possible with the promise and power of courage.

    Algonquin Embers

Darkness descends on all who dwell here. Silhouettes emerge from granite pedestals set on fluid plains, but one stands out as a visitor to this primal land. Light ignites in feathery plumage dividing a placid sky. Ribbons curl on Eastern breezes, scattering celestial diamonds for all to see. Protect this place. Embrace its warmth and special gifts. Let its soul burn within you like Algonquin embers.
