Canoe Series #53

Canoe Series #53

This is the 53rd sculpture in my Canoe Series. You will notice the edition number and my signature engraved on the back of the green canoe. My Canoe Series started with a small edition of six in 2016, and there are now a total of fifty-six in the growing edition. Number 53 was created in November of 2024, and even if I create more in the future, this will always be one of the first fifty-six in existence. Its value will only increase with the passage of time. My Canoe Series pieces have evolved from small starter sculptures to larger and more detailed pieces, and most include a loon by attaching it to a foreground root. This gives the impression of it swimming peacefully by the front of the island. This piece features one loon swimming away from the island with the prevailing winds behind it. The very special petrified wood that I have selected for this piece comes from Arizona. I hope that this piece reminds you of paddling on your favourite lake or river whenever you view it. The piece, with its bright green canoe, really “comes to life” when placed by a window. $775.00

    Cedar Strip

Crafted from the forest, its gunnels and keel gleam with an artist’s touch.  Flashes of light across a mist soaked lake supply proof of its presence, as it glides and sways in a rhythmic dance.  Markings on a polished underbelly honour the rocky Algonquin and Temagami isles where sanctuary was sought for moments of reflection and sustenance, or protection from leeward winds. As stars appear and night draws near, I wait in anticipation for the coming dawn when once again I can share quiet moments alone with my cedar strip.

Breaking waves caress the inhabitants of distant shores in hypnotic rhythms.  Pebbles glisten and turn, becoming one with the smooth and rippled sand beneath them.  A lone Pine clings to all that supports it, and life continues on Huron’s shores.
