Calm waters reveal inverted images of crimson and emerald hues in playful juxtaposition. Reflect on your role in this dual reality. Listen to the quiet tone of paddles stroking cool, clear, depths, as the swirl of gentle breezes soothe the haunting call of the loon. Ripples on rocky shores glisten, keeping time as they rise and fall in ancient rhythms. Choose to join nature’s symphony, with a genuine respect for all of its instruments, and rejoice in the subtle melodies of the canoe song.
Birch, White Pine root, and Spruce resin, all born of Mother Earth, are shaped by the skill of Indigenous hands. Moving through fluid pathways with grace and resilience as honoured ancestors of the Kenu. Cedar strip, canvas covered, aluminum, fibreglass, and Kevlar, pay homage to those who plied these waters for millenniums. Respect was given to all who shared this land. This message must never be ignored, as we honour our origins.
This collector piece is one out of a growing edition that I started creating in 2016. You will notice that the edition number and the artist’s signature is engraved on the back of the kayak, so as more pieces are created in the Kayak Series in the future, the lower edition numbers will translate to an increase in value with the passage of time.
