Your clear waters calm my soul with every stroke of my paddle. My red canoe is drawn to islands where solitude and reflection have sustained me through formative years. A father’s love of nature flows through my veins like warm Summer breezes, and lessons learned are appreciated with every sunset’s glow. You are the catalyst that reunites long lost friends. The calmness in the water of Lake of Two Rivers is interrupted by an approaching storm. The winds pick up with a sudden surge, wildlife seeks shelter in a frenzy of activity, and the skies open up with a burst of moisture. All around, the air is filled with a freshness that adds rich hues to the surrounding features. The raindrops on the branches descend slowly as if moved by unseen forces, and new life is spawned on the forest floor below. The calmness soon returns to the waters of Algonquin, and life begins again, after the storm.
Paddle strokes heard through the morning mist foreshadow an artist in search of inspiration. Algonquin presents its gifts to all who are willing to receive. Some see landscapes in vibrant colours and bold brushstrokes, while others pass without thought. Be a painter with your presence. Protect the forest, and guide others to respect its treasures. Move slowly, and absorb the vistas before you. Take pause from devices that distract, and discover your inner Thomson.
More than one hundred years have passed over Achray landscapes. A guardian of the land, entrusted to protect the pillars of the forest, ventured along Grand Lake shores in search of inspiration. Across the waters of Carcajou Bay, violet horizons roll in serpentine rhythms, while foreground branches bow in sunbathed splendor. He ensured his dependent lived forever in his oil sketch, as rocky shores, pristine waters, and windswept Pines were the culmination of Thomson’s Jack Pine visions.
