Reflections of Her Love

The celebration of a traveller, artist, photographer, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother spans seven decades, and began in Canada’s Victorian Oil Town surrounded by the sights and sounds of a dairy dominated landscape. “Soupy” was the senior spokesperson of four siblings, but as a true Libra, adorned with a princess’s tiara, found it difficult to make up her mind on issues that presented themselves. Formal education, within the walls of a one room structure, proved more than adequate as she moved up the honour role before acquiring a degree in her true love, artistic expression. Sombre ceremony led her to her future husband, and city lights shone on her as she embarked on her first career. Marriage and a home within earshot of the Scottish Festival welcomed baby Bill and Kathy into her life, and they blossomed under a parent’s loving guidance. The thistle was a constant reminder of a proud Scottish heritage embraced and held strong by the Campbell Clan. Two Labrador Retrievers graced the family, and Ginger’s offspring became the eyes of those who were unable to view the world as others did. Brody was a loyal fishing companion and a steadfast friend, and both made a lasting imprint on her life. Paddling in a vivid coloured canoe to destinations of peace and tranquility brought her joy and contentment and continues to be a constant source of inspiration for her as she photographs and paints beside the reflections of her love.

    Mew Lake Mist

Spring has come to Algonquin in reluctant strokes of fragile warmth. Cool waters ripple as icy coverings are released, and return slowly to fluid motion. Closing hours of daylight spawn Winter’s last flurry, and a chill returns to the now placid waters. Distant shores lose definition, and mystery returns in the Mew Lake mist.

    Celebration

St. Pauls College introduced two young students to each other, as well as the opportunity to make other life long friends. Love blossomed between the two, and led to a stiffling hot August day in seventy-seven, where exchanged vows changed their lives forever. Gibson Lake taught them the joys of paddling, and Killarney proved that the quickest way to escape a bear was to head out on the water.

    Courage

A man weaves tales of this land through poetry and song. Senses are awakened by images of past glory, as well as those of immeasurable pain. Challenges are whispered, to all who will listen, from frail limbs and foreboding eyes. Chanie Wenjack’s secret path jolts us into uncomfortable realizations of historical disconnects, and untold misery on the tip of a Raven’s wing. Pearls of wisdom, spoken by a sister, seek a different world through truth and reconciliation. We are all connected to someone, as Gord is to Chanie. Follow the examples of those who came before us, and seek the strength to facilitate change. Let us dance for healing under the moonlight on ashes of love. All is possible with the promise and power of courage.
