Description
An old spoon flashes below the surface in shades of black and gold, as red dots and tails entice the elusive trout. Time has honed his skills and marked his presence on this Algonquin lake aptly named Happy Isle. Paddle strokes and summer breezes were the backdrop to gentle mentoring between a young father and his son and daughter. From an early age they were quick to grasp knowledge and techniques passed down from a master. No words were spoken as communication between father and son were silent and reflective, only broken by the tandem strokes that propelled their craft. The love of the stillness and silence of the wilderness flowed between them in stress-free understanding as they learned to respect their surroundings and relax in each other’s company. Seven decades have passed in quiet celebration, and four young members of the next generation now look to him with eyes of excitement and reverence as a grandfather’s lessons become new again. His observations prove that the torch has been passed to able hands, and he smiles knowing that Happy Isle will always be witness to the joys that have sustained him, and that they will know they have been blessed to been mentored by the man known as the Kingfisher.
