The winds of change blow strong and deep, and seasons pass for all in this space. We treasure the touch of our father’s embrace. Through life’s swirling winds his strength holds us close. His fire and passion will be our guide. His spirit encircles us. With the Patriarch, we are one.
Waves of turmoil advance menacingly towards us.
Tranquility and serenity filter through this reality as solitary figures drift by with carefree intent.
Mirrored reflections on calm morning waters remind us of forty-five years of memories on this lake we call Temagami. Honeymooners gazed at a sky adorned with the lunar orb where mortals first tread less than a month before. Blessed with a son and daughter, we watched them grow and explore in childlike wonder through summer breezes and the cool night air. Signatures burnt in wood tell silent tales of past adventures and late night Bridge games, as they record the names of friends who have shared this space. Names such as Angus and Pfeifler pay homage to the craftsman and the stewards who came before us, holding similar visions and joys in the simple gifts of peace and solitude. A parents’ red, Peterborough cedar strip, with seven decades of fond memories woven into its fibres, will always be a part of our Temagami experience. We sit and listen from high ground, hidden from view by a cloak of emerald greens. Strokes of warm hues, added to the pallette by a gardener’s hands, greet the many who have gathered here in celebration. We rejoice and give thanks for our time together surrounded by wood, stone, and water, and look forward to the gifts that our future will bring. This is the promise of The Rock.
Pines bend on granite perches as visitors come and go in this sacred space.
As a woodsman, guide, and artist, Tom Thomson traversed northern lakes and rivers in his grey canoe, in a quest for a unique interpretation of the Canadian landscape. Morning cloud, moonlit nights, backwaters, drowned land, and forest trails, all became the focus of his brush. Guided by the west wind, he captured snow in the woods, Pine Island, the Tea Lake Dam, Canoe Lake, and the Jack Pine. We owe all of these iconic images to the inherent talent and unwavering perseverance of Thomson’s trek.
Our existence is entwined from the first steps of life’s journey. We grow side by side as gentle winds and forceful gales shape our choices on this experience of self-discovery and personal growth. Our roots take different pathways as they share life’s riches, but reach out with a firm embrace when our bond is threatened. Be at peace knowing each has their own unique journey, which can not be altered by our actions. Rejoice that there will always be angels surrounding the three sisters.
At times, darkness swirls around us and blankets optimism with a smothering cloak in wildfire haste.
Footsteps on paths of concrete and blackened steel betray my connection to Mother Earth. Rivers within me stress amongst vision blocking monoliths. Fragile life struggles for footholds while seeking life giving moisture. Lead me to northern lakes where summer breezes breathe rejuvenation, and clear waters warm my soul. Relax in the movement of the forest, and walk barefoot in its presence. Rejoice for you will be touched by Granite.
Catamaran breezes blew steady, as young love blossomed. Racing drew them together, as polished hulls skimmed across sparkling waters under a myriad of windswept and sundrenched skies.
