A trip to the Columbia Icefields, in the summer of 1967, resulted in this stone becoming an important keepsake for our family of seven. Dad insisted on bringing it back home, as a reminder of an eventful trip, just in case we never returned there together in the future. He was a husband and a father with a great sense of humour, and oh how he loved to take as much time as needed to explain his point in every detail. The many dialects he used entertained us for hours, his attention to detail amused us, and we always knew we were loved. This was Andy’s way.
Piercing winds buffet our souls with news of continued isolation in this desolate landscape.
This unique two piece sculpture combines the beauty of a windswept pine, the sweeping colors of a brilliant Canadian autumn and the strength of a stone monolith. The Pincher Rock originates from Pincher Creek in southern Alberta, where disputes arose over gold claims in the 1800’s. Its subtle tones allow the dark roots of the tree to contrast as they cling to their delicate outcrop. The pine with its two tone green boughs bends in the wind to reveal a harvest moon floating in a vibrant sky. Active waters below the island swirl about seeking their own pathway as they are guided by the autumn wind.
Early snow brings pause to all who ply these waters. The call of geese overhead reminds me of the passing season, and the gentle approach of the next. Memories return to summer morns, and carefree paddles on mist shrouded lakes. Without the return of melting warmth, we are only left awaiting spring.
Luck follows those born on the cusp, and swirls in an aquatic mist of selfless spirituality. Rings of violet, silver, and white gold have surrounded her for close to six decades, and now pay testament to a life of empathy and dreams fulfilled. Surrounding herself in sparkles of crystal shimmer fill her soul with endless joy. Her father speaks to her in gentle humour, with encouragement and trust that he be remembered in his granddaughters’ smiles. She will honour him, and dream in intuitive colour as she is forever bathed in Amethyst.
Be aware of life. Be alive and strive for compassion toward yourself and others. Do not be blind to opportunities to engage, to understand, to make a compassionate difference when life offers that to you. Enjoy and be passionate about this. While doing so, find eyes to see the landscape as a beautiful place.

I sit at the edge of day. It is the beginning of night. The sun exchanges places with the moon, and there is great stillness in the air. The night is full of magic, but all that is heard is the echo of the loon’s call. Blue Mystique envelopes those who will listen to the silence. The silence that is you.
Day’s end exposes an artist’s pallette of warm and muted hues. Filtered light caresses gently swaying branches in a magical, but fleeting embrace. Dance amongst the trees, and rejoice in their splendour as you are brushed in gold.
This collector piece is one out of a growing edition that I started creating in 2016. You will notice that the edition number and the artist’s signature is engraved on the back of the canoe, so as more pieces are created in the Canoe Series in the future, the lower edition numbers will translate to an increase in value with the passage of time.

The stone that is selected for these pieces comes from either Lake Temagami or Muskoka, which are both beautiful areas in Ontario, Canada. If you haven’t had to chance to visit these areas, be sure to do so.
This piece will really “come alive” when placed in the direct sunlight by a window.
